Credit unions are the best option for safe, affordable financial services. Their cooperative, not-for-profit structure allows credit unions to focus on their members and communities, not on chasing profits.

BHCCU & The Credit Union Difference

We strive to share positive stories and show the impact of community. We are lucky to have amazing communities full of incredible members who make what we do so special.

2025 is the Year of the Cooperative

cooperative (or co-op) is an organization that is owned and operated by its members, who use its services or work together to meet a common goal. Unlike traditional businesses that aim to generate profit for outside shareholders, cooperatives are designed to benefit the members directly. A credit union is a financial co-op owned by members who use its banking services.

Key Features of a Cooperative:

  • Member-Owned: The people who use the co-op's services or work in it typically own it.
  • Democratic Control: Each member usually gets one vote, regardless of how much they invested or used the co-op.
  • Member Benefit, Not Profit: Profits are either reinvested into the organization or distributed among members based on their use of the co-op, not on the amount of shares they own.
The United Nations General Assembly has officially declared 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC2025), celebrated under the theme “Cooperatives Build a Better World.” This theme highlights the enduring global impact of cooperatives and positions the cooperative model as a key solution for addressing numerous global challenges.
