Compromised Computer Scam

You’re Not Alone — Helping You Find Resources to Get You Back on Track

Compromised Computer Scam

compromised computer scam happens when a fraudster tricks you into believing your computer has a virus or security problem. They may pose as a trusted company and urge you to give them remote access to your computer or download “fixing” software.

Once they’re in, scammers can steal personal information, install malware, or access your online banking. They often pressure you to act quickly or pay for fake technical support services.

What to do:

  • Never give remote access or share personal information with someone who contacts you unexpectedly.

  • Hang up or close any pop-up that claims your device is infected.

  • If you think your computer has been compromised, disconnect it from the internet and contact BHCCU, along with a trusted computer service and recovery business, right away — we’re here to help you secure your accounts and recover safely.

Have you fallen victim to a compromising computer scam? BHCCU has done the research to find you a trusted resource in your area.
