Janesville, Wisconsin, May 16, 2019 – Blackhawk Community Credit Union (BHCCU) today announced new sites in Janesville for both its Legacy Center and its headquarters. The Legacy Center will be located at 100 W. Milwaukee Street in downtown Janesville and BHCCU’s headquarters will be located at the Moose Lodge site at 2701 Rockport Road in the Westgate Corridor. Offers for both properties have been accepted and closings are being determined.
Last September, BHCCU unveiled plans for a Legacy Center to honor generations of their members, who worked at the General Motors plant, along with a complex that included its headquarters in downtown Janesville on the Rock River. ARISE has identified six catalyst sites that will help propel the redevelopment of downtown Janesville. This update moves the Legacy Center to catalyst site five from catalyst site two. “Due to timing issues and the complexities of the original riverfront site, we have elected to locate the Legacy Center and our administrative offices on alternate sites. However, it is important to us that our expansion plans continue to contribute to Janesville’s overall redevelopment strategy,” said Sherri Stumpf, CEO. Moving locations allows the construction to begin immediately. “Timing is important in order to ensure that we can meet the timeline to turn over our Kennedy Road building to HealthNet in 2021,” said Stumpf.
The former Chase/First National Bank Building, built in 1913, will be restored as part of BHCCU’s plans to build the Legacy Center. “We are excited that this will not only return a building to its historic significance, but it will make a great backdrop for a museum that honors the men and women and families and friends of General Motors and the UAW. The 40,000 sq ft center will also provide much needed downtown parking, space for tenants, and will be a development on the end of Town Square’s Festival Street,” said Stumpf. The Moose Lodge site sits on 16 wooded acres and will become BHCCU’s administrative campus and a conference center. It has been listed for sale for almost three years. “We are investing in the city that invests in us. We are proud to be a strong employer in Janesville and continue our commitment to the community,” said Stumpf. With these developments, BHCCU will have four branches, administrative offices, a conference center, and the Legacy Center that span the entire city of Janesville.
Since 2011, BHCCU has grown from $320 million in assets with six branches to over $600 million in assets, 60,000 members and 12 branches from Stoughton to Janesville to Kenosha.
